The VP, Head of Operations, Center of Innovation, Danaher Diagnostics, will lead the newly announced Danaher Diagnostics’ Center of Innovation (COI) organization. This seasoned leader will establish, advance, and accelerate translational medicine programs through the COI that have the potential to advance to biomarker assays capable of scaling on Danaher Diagnostics Operating Company (OpCo) medical device install bases worldwide. This role will initially focus on standing up a COI in western United States but may expand to opening additional COIs for Danaher Diagnostics in various regions worldwide, inclusive of China.
This position is part of the Danaher Diagnostics Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) Office and will be located onsite in California at a Danaher or Danaher Diagnostics OpCo office near the US COI or biopharma hubs (site options to include: Vista/San Diego, San Francisco, or Los Angeles/Orange County).
Specific duties include but are not limited to: - Partnering closely with biopharma, academic (Beacon), government, and Open Innovation (OI) search and evaluation platform and OpCo leads as well as internal OpCO R&D and business leads, to broker single OpCo and drive cross-OpCo COI portfolio and funnel intake opportunities, leveraging the appropriate decision making/approval governances as required (e.g. OpCo PPG, DxSIR, etc).
- Building stage-appropriate business cases for candidate COI use cases using common DBS frameworks and the same financial modeling equations (e.g. CBR) that non-COI innovation programs use for consistency and “apples to apples” comparison during broad Danaher Diagnostics biomarker innovation portfolio/funnel management forums.
- Leading project evaluation, costing and resourcing in collaboration with the technical and product management leads across COI (some of whom will be direct reports), OpCos and external collaborators. Leads and brokers negotiations for external contracts; may not always be the external “face” for the partner (e.g. dependent on OpCo existing relationships with biopharma) so in some cases, must empower Danaher OpCo external relationship owner/”alliance manager” to be successful while doing so from an internal vantage point.
- Owning COI P&L and managing COI KPIs (e.g. operating metrics such as execution on budget and timelines) to deliver on the work for each approved use case as well as maintaining overall COI objectives margin, OMX & OPEX, Pricing & OP for COI services; serving as the primary business contact for the COI lab(s) performing the work.
- Partnering with comms to lead internal and external communications related to the COI itself as well as to highlight innovative translational medicine work being done at the COI and being involved in change management as needed to drive acceptance and adoption of the new COIs across Danaher Diagnostics OpCos.
- Defining and implementing operational plans at the COI, working between the COI lab partner staff and the Danaher employee COI staff (direct reports) to ensure that the day-to-day operations are running as planned and that the lab is preparing for readiness of workflows and staffing/capacity at the appropriate quality level to take on future Danaher use case work in a timely manner. Overseeing Danaher service line menu/portfolio offerings and Danaher instrument/equipment/reagent/antibody orders and installations.
- Holding COI lab partner accountable for high quality work and successful operationalization of sample tracking, data management, inventory control, compliance monitoring, quality management, risk management, and results analysis. Driving diligence and evaluation and contract negotiations of candidate future COI lab sites.
The essential requirements of the job include: - PhD in a biological science and MBA.
- 12+ years’ Business Development and GM experience and proven track record of success within BioPharma services in CLIA and large Fortune 500 or similar company settings.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex partnerships across multiple business and external partners, and P&L leadership.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to non-technical audiences, and the ability to combine and apply technical and business knowledge to make balanced decisions.
- Ability to combine financial, commercial, clinical, and scientific knowledge and demonstrated business acumen to make balanced decisions.
- Experience managing people and teams including budget responsibility.
- Domestic and international travel is required (approx 30%).
It would be a plus if you also possess / have previous experience in: - Experience with biopharma drug development and Companion Diagnostics (CDx)
- Familiarity with Danaher Diagnostics Operating Companies
The salary range for this role is $300,000 - $350,000 annually. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
