Your Role on the Team Position Summary: The Blood Donor Center currently has three locations: Campus Blood Donor Center, Medical Center Blood Donor Center, and Mobile Collection sites. The incumbent will be assigned to a primary area but will be expected to work in all three areas as needed. The incumbent screens donors, draws blood samples, assists or performs collection of whole blood and/or apheresis collections at any of the three sites as needed. The incumbent processes blood units and prepares segments and tubes for ID testing. Responsibilities include facilitating smooth and efficient operations such as donor scheduling, registration, recruitment, and inventory stocking.
Essential Job Functions: The identification of essential functions below is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned to this position, nor does it restrict the duties which may be assigned to this position if such duties reasonably relate to the position. - Performs a full range of duties involved in processing blood products into blood components 40%
- Perform inventory, receive, stocks and delivers supplies as appropriate. Completes required documentation for supply receipt and computer entry functions. Ensures cleanliness by using appropriate methods and solutions to clean and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments as required. Accurately and appropriately performs quality control on equipment ensuring all appropriate records are kept as required. Actively participates in inspection processes. Provides training and instruction to new staff as needed. 10%
- Participates in a full range of quality assurance including sampling product quality control and assessing blood product acceptability. Accurately performs computer data entry functions. Appropriately receives and processes calls to department. 30%
- Appropriately processes and transports blood units and accurately prepares segments and tubes for testing. Disposes of all waste, sharps, specimen, and other materials in accordance with departmental policy. 20%

Required Qualifications: - Strong customer service orientation
- One year clinical laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience using lab/hospital computer systems and software
- Experience using computer systems and software
- Ability to work variable shifts including evenings and weekends
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment
Preferred Qualifications: - Two years of college education in a related scientific field, or related experience
- Minimum two years prior Laboratory related experience
