Designcraft is a prototype-oriented job shop helping our client companies bring new products to market. No two days are ever the same. With varying quantities, part dimensions, materials and finishes you will be challenged to grow your skill set daily while working among our team of highly skilled individuals.
Our casting department is responsible for the creation of all our silicone and urethane parts. Which may be used in our visual models, prototype assemblies, or as the final product used by end customers. Products for VR, transportation, medical, military applications, or anything with a keypad may use our silicone parts. Urethane parts are used mainly in prototypes and low volume production. Molds are created using our milling and 3D printing capabilities. Cast parts from those molds provide both aesthetic and mechanical requirements to bring our customer’s products to life.
Common tasks include:
- Creating RTV molds from 3D prints, for urethane parts
- Preparing aluminum tooling (molds) for silicone parts
- Casting Urethane or Silicone
- Over molding inserts or other parts of an assembly
- Part clean up, removing excess flash material
This position requires a self-starter mentality. The nature of prototyping demands project deadlines measured in days or weeks. Successful Finishers (Model Makers) are detail oriented, organized, and have a do what it takes approach. Communication with others on the team will be integral in moving a project to completion. Your primary objective is to make sure the product meets our standards and the customer’s requirements, when it comes to form, fit and function.
Ideal Team Member:
- Good hand skills and an eye for detail
- Budget time effectively with simultaneous projects and deliverables
- Creativity, problem-solving skills, and a visual eye
- Willingness to work occasional overtime, and have a “do what it takes” attitude
- Mechanical aptitude to use various hand tools and shop equipment
- Ability to use basic windows and web based programs
REQUIREMENTS
- Due to ITAR, all employees must be “US persons” as defined by law
- Candidates must be able to lift 35lbs and potentially stand for long periods of time (spraying parts in paint booth for example)

- A valid Driver’s License
- A High School degree or equivalent
- Ability to wear a half or full-face respirator as required by OSHA
