Summary of Duties:

The position has a primary responsibility for the secure and confidential transportation of the Head of Mission (HOM) on a daily basis, including on routes that require diligent pre-analysis, preparation, itinerary planning and security precautions. This includes travel to and from the Consulate on a regular basis, travel to meetings, public outreach and other events during the day and during evenings. The position requires overtime on a regular basis. As required, the position may also have responsibility for the secure transport of dignitaries, mission officials, staff and CBS dependents, on routes that require diligent pre-analysis, preparation, itinerary planning and security precautions. The incumbent may arrange for diplomatic courier services and car maintenance and cleaning, undertake vehicle administrative duties, and will provide basic administrative support services, protocol and other support services like the reception duties following established mission and departmental policies. Driver provides transportation, delivery and/or errand services to all mission programs.



Area of Selection:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

Successful completion of Secondary School.

Language:

Intermediate level proficiency in English (oral and written)

Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience driving a company and/or government owned vehicle in the Atlanta Area within the last 5 years (i.e., Limousine driver, Taxi driver, Delivery driver, police officer, security guard). Experience in provision of basic administrative support services.

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.



Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of street routes and traffic patterns in the local metro area
  • Elemental knowledge of car maintenance
Knowledge in using standard office equipment and work with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word

Abilities:

  • Operate assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner and keep the car tidy at all times
  • Perform administrative support tasks such as record keeping and data entry, while paying attention to detail; and
Use GPS, navigation, and related technology systems.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Fluency in French (oral) One (1) year experience driving official delegations and VIPs, including High Level Officials;

Operational Requirements:

  • Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Locally Engaged Staff (LES) in the United States of 40 hours per week;
  • The employee must be able to work overtime and work evenings and weekends; and
  • The employee must drive in all types of weather conditions
  • The work requires operating a vehicle and sitting for extended periods and may require lifting parcels, boxes, luggage, goods and/or other equipment.


Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

  • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
  • Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

Other conditions of employment:

  • Medical exam: a medical exam conducted annually to confirm fitness to work and drive.
  • A valid US Driver’s License;
  • Clean, safe driving record. Before an offer of employment can be made, candidates must provide a copy of their driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles;
